Our Mini Goldendoodle Mother Dogs
Our Mommas
We run a Guardian Program, which is on of the best breeding practices in existence. We breed full-time and therefore have lots of experience. Small breeders often make many mistakes because they only breed occasionally. They don't have the knowledge or resources to improve the breed. We average 8-12 litters a year. Are we a puppy mill because of many puppies being produced? No. We are the farthest things from a puppy mill. Puppy mills kennel their many mother dogs and puppies for most of their lives. They re-sell their retired mothers for cheap prices, donate them to rescues, or even worse, euthanize them.
Our mother dogs are pampered, and cared for with their loving families and live with no more than 1 other dog forever in the same home they were raised in. They are bred for only up to 4 times, and if they have no health issues. We are able to have many, happy dogs this way. No mother dogs are kept outdoors or in dirty, disease infected areas. In fact, they get more attention than most dogs because we hand select homes where the environment is extremely healthy emotionally and physically for a family dog. They have kids to play with, usually an adult home most of the day, sometimes another doggie playmate and of course, there are two families watching out for their health. They are groomed, exercised (required), vetted, protected, and loved!
Why Do English Mothers Matter?
English Golden Retrievers are a variant of the Golden Retriever breed and almost their own breed. They are known for several unique characteristics that set them apart from their American counterparts:
1. Appearance
-
Color: English Golden Retrievers often have a lighter, cream-colored coat compared to the darker, golden hues typically seen in American Golden Retrievers.
-
Build: They generally have a stockier build with a broader head, shorter legs, and a more muscular physique. They are not quite as athletic. This offsets the poodle breed which is lanky and athletic. It's the perfect blend because most goldendoodles end up scrawny, lanky and poodle-like.
-
Eyes: English Goldens tend to have rounder, darker eyes which give them a softer expression. Of course! They are lovely.
-
Coat: Their coats are usually thicker and slightly wavier. Their coat is thicker and shorter, which develops the English Goldendoodle's coat to be different. It's AMAZING!
2. Temperament
-
Calm Demeanor: English Golden Retrievers are known for their calm and laid-back temperament, often making them excellent companions and therapy dogs. They are also lazy. So this also offsets the poodle personality which can be too neurotic.
-
Gentle Nature: They are incredibly gentle, friendly, and patient, which makes them great family pets, especially for homes with children.
-
Intelligence: Like all Golden Retrievers, they are people pleasers. They are not stubborn, and train really easily.
3. Health
-
Longevity: Some studies suggest that English Golden Retrievers might have a slightly longer lifespan compared to their American counterparts. This is so important we see the Golden Retriever lifespan averages decrease dramatically.
-
Cancer Rates: There is some evidence to suggest that English Golden Retrievers may have a lower incidence of certain types of cancer, which is a common health concern in the breed.
4. Heritage and Breeding Standards
-
Origin: English Golden Retrievers were originally bred in Scotland in the mid-19th century. They were bred from a combination of wavy-coated Retrievers and Water Spaniels.
-
Breeding Standards: The breeding standards for English Golden Retrievers, as defined by the UK’s Kennel Club, emphasize different physical characteristics compared to the American Kennel Club standards. They would never get to the dog show on Thanksgiving. The AKC breed needs to be "gold" colored.
5. Popularity
-
Show Success: Due to their distinctive appearance and gentle nature, English Golden Retrievers often excel in dog shows and competitions. They are bred to show and so have a very docile temperament. We LOVE this for our breeding program.
-
Demand: Their unique traits have made them increasingly popular among breeders and pet owners, particularly those looking for a specific aesthetic and temperament.
6. Activities
-
Versatility: English Golden Retrievers are versatile dogs that excel in various activities such as obedience, agility, and search and rescue.
-
Water Dogs: They have a natural love for water. My opinion is that they aren't the greatest swimmers because they are thick-boned and boxy.
